Terms & conditions: Let’s talk details
Everything you need to know about making a bókun, nothing you don’t.
Before we begin
Please read these terms carefully before using our website or booking anything through us. By accessing our site or making a bókun (booking), you’re agreeing to these terms.
We keep these terms as clear as we can because we believe you should always know what you’re agreeing to. It’s basically all the important stuff but written in plain English.
About our role
We’re your local travel companion in Iceland. Travel to Iceland (“We”) is a booking platform (“Website,” “Site”) that connects travelers with independent, local providers of rental vehicles and tours all throughout Iceland. These providers include car rental companies, campervan & motorhome rental operators, tour guides, and activity organizers. (From now on, we’ll call them “Providers”).
Travel to Iceland ehf.
Keflavík International Airport
235 Keflavík (Iceland)
VAT number - 114128
It’s important to note that we don’t own, operate, or control any of the vehicles, equipment, or experiences offered through our website. We’re not a party to the agreement between you and the Provider. Travel to Iceland’s role is limited to facilitating bookings and processing payments on their behalf.
Each Provider is an independent business with its own terms, conditions, and policies. When you book through us, you’re entering into a direct contractual relationship with that Provider. Their terms will apply to your rental or tour, so we encourage you to review them carefully. In the rare case of a mismatch between our terms and the Provider’s, we’ll always apply the version that works best for you.
Our role is to make the connection smooth, clear, and trustworthy. We’re the friendly face that helps you find the right provider and assists you if you need us along the way, but the actual travel experience itself is subject to you and them.
Responsibilities & obligations
Travel involves a few different parties, and it helps to know who’s looking after what before your ferð (trip) begins. Here’s how responsibility is shared between us, you, and the local providers we work with.
What we're responsible for
We take our responsibilities seriously. We're responsible for:
- Making sure the booking process works smoothly
- Clearly displaying prices, policies, and provider information
- Passing your details accurately to the right provider
- Processing payments securely and getting funds to the right place
- Being here to help if something comes up between you and a provider
We choose our partners carefully because we want you to have a góð (good) experience. But please remember we cannot guarantee the accuracy of all information provided by third parties.
What we’re not responsible for
This is where we need to be direct, because it's important you understand the limits of what we can control.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, about our platform and the services or gifts offered through it. We can't guarantee that the Provider information is error-free, that our site will never have hiccups, or that every issue will be resolved exactly as you'd hoped.
More specifically, we are not liable for any damages, whether direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential, arising from or related to:
- Any booking or gift from our platform
- The acts or omissions of any Provider
- Travel disruptions caused by weather, road conditions, or natural events
- Loss or damage to personal property
- Personal injury or death
It means that when you book with us, you're booking with real local businesses that run their own operations. If a campervan breaks down or a tour gets canceled due to weather, the provider terms apply. We'll always do what we can to help you find a resolution, but legally, the responsibility lies with them.
Your responsibilities
To keep things running smoothly (and safely), we ask that you:
- Provide accurate, up-to-date information when booking
- Read all provider terms, policies, and pickup instructions carefully, including age limits, driver's license rules, and any special conditions. Each provider sets their own, and it's up to you to make sure you qualify
- Show up on time for pickups and tours
- Treat vehicles, equipment, and guides with respect
- Comply with all Icelandic traffic laws and safety regulations; it's up to you to know these before driving in Iceland
- Carry appropriate travel insurance that covers your planned activities
- Drive only on roads the vehicle is intended for
- Check road.is and vedur.is daily for weather and road conditions and see if travel is advised.
- Check with the consulate of the country you're visiting for current entry requirements
If you're booking on behalf of others, you're confirming that you have the authority to act for them and that they agree to these terms too.
Booking through us
When you make a booking on our site, here's what happens:
- You choose a rental or tour and complete your payment
- All done! You'll receive your confirmation email and any related documents shortly.
When you complete a booking, you authorize us to charge your payment method for the total amount shown (usually a partial deposit or down payment), including all applicable taxes and fees. Some prices may vary according to availability. Last-minute bookings could modify website prices without previous notification on our behalf.
Your legal agreement for the service itself, be it the car, the camper, or the tour, is directly with that provider. Their terms and conditions apply to your booking, and we strongly encourage you to read them. You'll usually find a link to their full terms during the booking process.
In the rare event that a Provider cannot confirm a reservation due to availability issues, Travel to Iceland reserves the right to cancel the booking within 3 days of your reservation. Travel to Iceland will refund the full amount of the booking fee. Be aware that Providers also reserve the right to cancel or modify bookings in line with their policies or when circumstances beyond their control come into play.
We will send your booking confirmation and any relevant travel documents to the email address you provide when you book. If you do not receive your booking confirmation within 24 hours of making your booking, please contact us.
Payments and pricing
When you book through us, we collect payment at the time of booking. The price you see is the price you pay. Prices, products, and services offered on our site are valid as of the dates shown.
When you book a vehicle with us online, we will charge the booking fee to your credit card. This is usually a small portion of the total rental cost (*). The remainder is payable upon collection, and for most of the vehicles, you can pay the balance by credit card or cash (ISK, EUR, GBP or USD).
(*) The amount varies based on your chosen vehicle.
For customers using AMEX: Not all of our providers take American Express for the outstanding balance. Availability of this payment method varies depending on the selected model.
Currency and conversions
All prices are displayed in the currency you select. Charges are based on the local tariff and currency (ISK) at the time of quoting.
The price you see on our site is converted from Icelandic Króna at the rate we’re working with at the time. Your bank may use a slightly different rate when processing the charge, and some merchants may add a foreign transaction fee. That part is between you and your bank.
Pre-authorizations and deposits
For car and camper rentals, providers typically place a hold on your card at pickup. This is standard practice in Iceland; it's not a charge but a temporary hold to cover potential costs, even if a voucher covers the total cost of the rental.
These include (but are not limited to) extra insurance, parking fines, damages, or any cost incurred during the rental period.
Specific deposit amounts or card requirements can be found on each vehicle during the booking process.
Obvious errors
If a price is clearly wrong, we reserve the right to correct it. Web errors and misprints are not binding. If that happens after you've booked, we'll reach out to you to sort it out.
Tax
Local value-added tax (VAT) of 24% is included in all prices.
Cancellations, changes, and no-shows
Each provider sets their own cancellation policy. You'll see it clearly before you book, and it will also appear in your confirmation.
Some bookings are fully refundable up to a certain date. Others, especially tours that require guides and permits, may have stricter policies. Please read them carefully. In general, unused rental days are not eligible for a refund.
No-shows
If the vehicle can't be picked up or tours can't be enjoyed because of:
- Insufficient documentation
- Failure to provide a valid credit card with enough funds for the deposit
- Not showing up at the specified time and date
- Not meeting the requirements (equipment, clothes, age, etc.)
Refunds won’t be available, and the full-cost amount may be charged.
Modifications
Changes may be possible depending on availability, but please keep in mind that each Provider has their own rules. You'll find the specific terms, including the deadline for changes, in the Provider’s policy during booking. Please read them carefully so you know what’s possible and when.
Our agents can help with modifications at no extra cost, but the final price may change based on what you're changing to, current rates, or how long you're extending.
To cancel or modify a booking, just contact us. We'll pass your request along to the provider and confirm any applicable refunds based on their policy.

Governing law and disputes
If a disagreement comes up between you and a Provider, we ask that you first try to work it out directly with them. They're in the best position to resolve things on the ground.
If you're not able to reach a resolution, contact us and we'll do our best to help mediate. As a booking platform, we cannot be held responsible for the actions of any rental provider. Our role is to mediate between you and the provider when issues come up related to your rental. Under no circumstances can we be held liable for compensation to the customer.
Icelandic law applies to all agreements made under these terms, including any claims for compensation, whether they're about how compensation is calculated or the legal basis for it. The same applies to claims for damages that fall outside this agreement. If a legal dispute arises, it will be handled in the lessor's (the rental provider's) legal venue.
That said, disputes between customers and rental providers can also be submitted to the Arbitration Committee of the Icelandic Consumers Association and the Icelandic Travel Industry Association for resolution. Any legal proceedings related to these terms or your use of our platform will be handled exclusively in the courts of Reykjavík, Iceland.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, when laws change, when our business evolves, or just when we find a clearer way to explain something. The current version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
If you continue using our site after we post changes, you're agreeing to the updated terms.
We've translated these terms into other languages to make them more accessible, but if there's ever a difference between versions, the original English one is our official reference point.
