On the Golden Circle tour you can walk around the world-famous Geysir geothermal area, a geothermal field where hot springs are in abundance, geysers explode and pools of mud bubble. One of the Golden Circles many highlights is the Gullfoss waterfall, the queen of Iceland's waterfalls. Finally, but no less spectacular is a visit to the Þingvellir National Park.

This is the original site of the oldest existing parliament in the world. The Great Atlantic rift is clearly visible, a rift that is slowly pulling Iceland apart along tectonic plates.

Day 4. FREE TIME IN REYKJAVIK – OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

Free day in Reykjavik. Depeding on the period you are travelling we can advise you with some possible excursions.

Day 5. NORTH ICELAND – LAKE MÝVATN

A full day visiting the Lake Mývatn area.

This tour to one of the loveliest spots in Iceland focuses on the most attractive features of the area. The drive along the fjord of Eyjafjörður provides us with a splendid view of Akureyri, often referred to as the capital of the north Iceland. On our way to Goðafoss waterfall you travel through the valley of Fnjóskadalur with its lovely meandering river. Goðafoss waterfall is the first stop on our way to Lake Mývatn. Not only is Goðafoss a beautiful waterfall, but it has also played an important role in the history of the country, particularly in connection with the introduction of Christianity. From this scenic waterfall the road takes us to Skútustaðir, which is the first site we visit in the district surrounding Lake Mývatn. Intriguing pseudo-craters abound in this area. Towards noon we take a break for lunch in Reykjahlíð village. In the afternoon you proceed to Krafla mountain, past the power station bearing the same name. This power project is unusual in Iceland because it relies on geothermal steam energy for its operation. Our stop is at Víti ("Hell"), an explosive crater in the slopes of Krafla. After visiting this volcanic location, you travel on for a view of Hverarönd, with its sizzling and bubbling sulphur mud pots. Grjótagjá is our next stop, where there used to be a natural, geothermal bathing spot. The final stop in this scenic district is at Dimmuborgir, Dark Castles, where towering lava formations characterise the surrounding landscape. After a brief rest stop in Reykjahlíð village we return to Akureyri in time for you to catch the evening flight to Reykjavík.

Day 6. SOUTH ICELAND ADVENTURE

This tour is ideal for nature lovers of all kinds. You will have an opportunity to stand behind the plummeting Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and walk up to the Skógafoss Waterfall.

We travel along the South coast of Iceland as far as Vík, a small charming village surrounded by beautiful high bird cliffs. Other highlights of the day are stunning views of glaciers, black lava sand coast lines and impressive rock formations.

Optional excursions during the tour:
Glacier walking/Climbing

Day 7. REYKJAVIK / KEFLAVIK / ...

Depending on the flight back home, transfer from the accommodation to Keflavik International Airport.
